The nation's nearly 8,000 Catholic schools will celebrate Catholic Schools Week, January 27 through February 2nd.
The 2008 theme is "Catholic Schools Light the Way." The theme focuses on the leadership that Catholic Schools provide to our nation, producing graduates who light the way to a brighter future for all humankind. The theme also highlights the spiritual foundation of Catholic schools, for we are on "The Way," a biblical term used to describe those who follow Jesus as disciples. The slogan, "Catholic Schools Light the Way," reminds us that we are called to "light the way" to the kingdom for others even as we walk "the way" of discipleship and grow in faith ourselves.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK OUTREACH PROJECT
Our Outreach Project for Catholic Schools Week this year is raising funds to go towards Father Jude's parish schools in Uganda Africa. When he visited St. Agnes, he showed us pictures of some of the schools he serves. Some were buildings, others were just shelters. None of them had running water. We have just recently been in contract with Fr. Jude. While their needs are many, he expressed an immediate need for proper sanitation at two of his schools. It would cost $800 per school to construct the latrines. Wouldn't it be great if we could raise enough money to cover the cost of construction at one of the schools? We are such a fortunate nation - the things we expect to have are a luxury for people of other nations!
For every donation of $5 to Fr. Jude's schools, you will receive a bracelet to show that you donated to a worthy cause. We encourage each student to do so, and other family members may make a donation as well.
